List #1 is the best. It's the least utilized list, hving been shafted twice (97 and 09) in the current active period. 1985 and 2003 were the only times it's gotten very far past 10 storms, and yet it's still slammed retirements into history....Bob, David, Elena, Frederic/Fabian, Gloria, Isabel, Juan....should've been Kate.....this list looks nothing like it originally did.
But the best thing about List #1 is it's got so many funny names. Mindy. LOL. Honorable mentions for Ana, Danny, Fred, Grace, Henri, and Larry. Basically if it hasn't been retired yet it's because the world's historians wouldn't know what to do with such an absurd sounding hurricane.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

I really don't like the use of diminutive forms of names ending in -ie or -y as hurricane names. To me such forms sound too "friendly" or "child-like" to be scary. If people's given names are going to be used to name hurricanes, I think they should be names that have a chance of sounding like powerful adults.
So I don't like having Shary, Cindy, Tammy, Debby, Patty, Sandy, Tony, Dolly, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, Danny, and Mindy on the lists. They all seem to "cutesy" for hurricanes to me. Jerry and Larry aren't quite so bad because they've been used as official given names so often in the USA that they manage to sound "adult" to me in spite of originally being pet forms. Bonnie, Harvey, Leslie, Barry, and Wendy are more acceptable to me since they aren't primarily of "nickname" origin (though Wendy does still sound a bit too "cute" for my taste.)
So lists #4 and #6 would be my least favorite because they each contain four of the names I really don't like. #4 is a bit worse than #6 because I think Debby is a worse name for a hurricane than Dolly -- Dolly Parton's image makes Dolly seem more "adult" to me, I guess.
I suppose my two favorite lists would be a tie between #2 and #5. #2 has only one name I really dislike (Shary), and #5 has none of my worse "dislikes" but three of the semi-bads (Barry, Jerry, and Wendy.)
Gurl, what have you been smoking?
TONY is an Italian Mafia name. How is that NOT powerful?

As a 59 year old man I do not appreciate being addressed as "gurl" no matter what the spelling. That was just rude. Of course, "boy" would have been just as rude.
Emily is not a name I had objections to, though your personal friend would have no bearing on how the general public perceives the name.

"Any storm with a Greek name that warrants retirement will be listed in the historical roll call with the year appended to the letter. For example, if “Alpha” proves tragic this year, it may be retired as “Alpha2006.” This way, says Max Mayfield, chairman of the 26-nation WMO Region IV Tropical Cyclone Programmer, in the rare case that a Greek-lettered storm is recommended for retirement, the letter can be used again. “We are all secretly hoping that it doesn’t happen, but if it does, it does.” -http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/BAMS-87-6-760

You would need at least 6 X,Y,Z names, and probably 10 backups just in case. So easy to pronounce X,Y,Z names probably aren't going to be easy to make more.

I pick the Greek Alphabet, because it has been used only once, in 2005.
