Posted this yesterday in the thread on preps and info for the islands, but it needs to be here too:

I'll post this in the Hurricane Preps forum too, but I just saw while following Twitter re: Hurricane Isaac that the Red Cross has some special apps to help with Hurricanes:

American Red Cross ‏@RedCross
Our hurricane app also features info on #RedCross shelters, a toolkit w flashlight, strobe light, alarm http://rdcrss.org/Py9tHU #Isaac

American Red Cross ‏@RedCross
In our Hurricane App, there's a one-touch “I’m Safe” button to let family, friends know u are okay. #Isaac http://rdcrss.org/Py9tHU

very cool to see technology put to such good use!

Hello all, I'm located in Cabarete at the north coast of the Dominican Republic. All fine here, some breeze but not over 30-35 knt range (kitesurfers were still out today), ocean has very high waves (approx 10 feet), so far only light to moderate rain.

Below photos I received from friends that are located in the South and Southwest of the Dominican Republic. Definitely, much more serious conditions there.

good to see you quaqualita. I hope you don't get much more there. Those pictures just go to show how even a tropical storm can be bad.
We are thinking about you all there and check in with us when you can so we know how you are.

Someone I am "friends"with on FB who lives and works in the New Orleans area said that where he works is boarding up their windows today. I think everyone should stay prepared and certainly New Orleans is not in the clear but my goodness, that seems a little crazy.

Just sitting tight and waiting on the rains to quickly come and go. Lot of people here more focused on the track and cone so its not being taken as seriously as it should be. Our main problem is usually flooding so I hope the rains don't last too long.

already have a power outage in my area. Lightning just took out over 2000 customers at our substation. Fortunately for us, we are just a tad south of it, but had multiple brief outages.

I know most of you know about local NWS pages, but I was very impressed with the video updates out of Key West that provide good information on the system. Here is the link to the NWS Key West page. The link to the video is up top.

ATL: ISAAC - Tropical Storm - Discussion

#33 Postby SunnyThoughts » Fri Aug 24, 2012 9:37 pm

I'm glad everyone down state is getting their supplies and making preparations. Just went to Walmart here in Pensacola.....I just needed to stock up on some non perishables.. I managed to grab the last cans of chicken/tuna, spaghettio's... holy cow, they did still have plenty of water..but the perishable stuff had been stripped for the most part.

Report from Haiti

http://stormcarib.com/reports/current/haiti.shtml

- heavy winds in Jacmel, Cayes-Jacmel

From: Daniel O'Neil <doneil at padf.org>
Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2012 12:20:55 +0000

There have been heavy winds in the Jacmel-Cayes Jacmel area that have destroyed many of the tin. The biggest impact appears to be on the banana and plantain plantations which are largely flattened. The storm is still sitting on Port-au-Prince. At 8:00AM, the sky was still quite dark. The storm is now moving slowly past the Artibonite where it is expected to cause additional flooding in the Gonaives area. The sad thing with a storm like this is that it will hit all of the country causing localized damage in nearly all the 10 departments
