people on this forum thought NO dodged the bullet, oh are they wrong- some parts of NO are devastated and southern MS is crushed.

these horrible pictures make you completely forget about how our gas prices are skyrocketing from this storm. It really puts the human impact on display here.
   It's the saddest thing I have ever seen.

I know it could have been worse. If it completed an ERC and the eye passed over NO, we are talking thousands of deaths, complete destruction of NO, but this storm Cat 4 was incredible. When it made landfall in S Florida it was nothing like it was today.

Pensacola is just fine.We only saw T.S force winds here.I drove around town today and I saw a down tree here and there but that's about it.Lots of people are out of power though.

talked to PNJ today, the tidal surge may have been slightly less than experienced with Georges. Winds were a non issue

Well, I can tell ya, if it had hit NO directly, then it would be basically gone.

But it's way too bad enough.

Well, let me put it in perspective. For most of NO the flooding could've been worse. But for 9th Ward and areas in e-ern NO they still got what looks to be 8-10' of flooding (houses in that last pic appear to be one story so I'm eyeballing at least 8ft of water to get to that height). Anything over the head of the avg adult which for discussion purposes I'll say is 5'5" - 6' is bad. If you can't swim 8' will DROWN you. People have drowned in 4' of water. Heck 3' can drown a child. Bullet really wasn't dodged at all IMO for NO. City was destroyed but was hit pretty hard none the less.

And keep in mind this is only NO. I can only imagine the horror we may see once we get into the rest of the towns in SE LA and MS.

The local news anchors commenting on the footage say that the Metairie area is completely submerged.
