I didnt start looking at this system until TheEuropean brought it up. I agree that it should be mentioned by the NHC likely as STS Noel.

I remember 1980's Hurricane Charley formed in a similar way, from the low at the end of an occluded front East of the Carolinas, on the 'cold' side of a weak frontal boundary. Started as a STS, eventually become an 80 mph hurricane.


I have seen winter storms that have formed apparent 'eye' features when viewed with visible satellite. On IR, however, all the cooler cloud tops are North of the 'eye'.

Better example of apparent eye feature in solidly non-tropical cyclones.
