That was definitely the place to look today. Bay/Walton/Okaloosa Counties look to get a few inches of rain today for sure.

Going by radar out of Eglin there does appear to be a Meso Low near Panama City drifting westward.

Well, NWS Tally in the AFD this morning says it is in the Appy Bay....

"Showers and embedded thunderstorms continue to stream inland across
mainly Taylor, Dixie and Lafayette Counties tonight around the
periphery of a weakening meso-low located in Apalachee Bay."

Have received 2.33 inches since midnight last night. Also the showers are building further inland earlier than they have this week.

This site with the streamlines checked shows a low just off the SW tip of Apalachee point.
The pressures have risen since yesterday though.

Weather station observations are possibly indicating a surface low forming south of the panhandle. Will have to see if this continues.

Been watching this area all morning. FWIW there's a very persistent MLC maybe LLC embedded in this mornings burst of convection in the Apalachicola bay.

we really got bombed last night...pool is near overflow yet again. and it's raining right now. while the rain-induced break from the heat has been nice I'm now looking forward to a return to seasonable weather..

I've had 3.5 inches since Sunday night in the Deer Point Lake area of Bay County. According to this morning's AFD from the Tallahassee NWS they are backing off the rain totals for this area due some drying in the atmosphere. It doesn't appear as though the rainfall is going to be as substantial as originally thought.

Impressive feeder bands over the NE gulf this morning. This system could have spelled serious trouble for someone if it were 200 or so miles further south. The broad circulation would take up a good portion of the gulf.

Closer to the coast I think we will see the higher rainfall amounts. I am in the cove much closer to the coast then you are in deerpoint.

Very interesting chart showing pressure falling and wind speed increasing 8/4 - 8/9 from a Tyndall AFB tower in the gulf below Apalachicola. The pressure has risen today but the wind speed has remained elevated for now.

Yes...this morning as I left the house it was not raining at all but as I travelled about 3 miles down 231 it was pouring down. I'll take whatever I can get. It doesn't take the ground long to dry out and lose it's moisture this time of year.

Why isn't this an invest? Seems like it should be. I'm awaiting the deluge in Biloxi. :?:

I agree. It is very impressive both on the rainbow enhanced and the radar!

You can see the low level circulation centered inland still undercutting the mid level convection after it streams across Mobile bay. That is causing the lift as it picks up the gulf moisture.

The low level circulation is continuing to relax and the surface pressure is now a broad shallow low.
I haven't seen any new low pressures in the gulf below 29.82 MBs in the last 24 hours.

If something does develop at the surface over the gulf development would be very slow since it usually takes a long time for the pressure gradient to recover.
