Tampa Bay Hurricane wrote:The current track brings 70 mph just south, but if it stays

to evacuate???

If you do evacuate, be sure and pick up your hurricane re-entry stickers/cards early Monday if they issue them in your area. I'm in Citrus County and got mine last Friday. I was in Hurricane Elena in Cedar Key in '85 and spent two days on the road trying to get home to the island -- no re-entry then.

I'm sorry but I have to post this. It made me laugh out loud at the incompetence. As far I know this was posted on the Hillsborough County School District web site either late last night or early this morning. (because I checked late yeserday)

quote
It is unclear at this time whether Tropical Storm Fay will have an impact on the Tampa Bay area. Early indications are that if there is an impact, it likely would occur on Tuesday.
If there are any plans to cancel events or close school, parents will be notified through automated phone messages, the district website, and via local television, radio and newspapers. School district officials remain in contact with the Emergency Operations Center. Look for updates in this space as more information becomes available.

Do they even check the NHC???

School is still in session for Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties.

That doesn't make the kids happy

Feeder bands aproaching SE Florida. I am going to hit the road soon, and will be reporting on how people in Broward County are taking this threat.

Well I hate to be a smart aleck, but my kids also go to school here in PBC and we have ALOT of walkers and bikers. (us being one of them-I can't stand the car loop). I could take the car but its such a hassle. Regardless of what the school board says for tomorrow I will have the final say on whether or not the kids go to school. I also have a middle schooler who won't be home until 4:30. so who knows what the weather will be like then. I just wish they'd (school board) use some common sense once in a while.

Light rain falling at the moment. Winds coming from the SE on an average of 9 mph. Just had a gust of 22 mph. Barometer begins to dip but mostly steady.

I want to make a special request of ALL of our Florida members, but especially those along the West Coast of the peninsula. EVERYONE in Florida needs to be watching TS FAY closely. And yes that does mean those in the panhandle!! My Mom lives in Niceville and I am keeping her posted on what is going on. Anyone on this site with relatives in Florida, please do the same.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR PREPARATIONS ARE IN ORDER NOW!!!! (I'm sure I am preaching to the choir) Please don't wait till later. If you are in a possble evacuation area be sure all of those preps are in order NOW!! And above all-LISTEN TO YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND DO AS THEY ASK!!!

Absofreakinlutely.

A mass of convection now impacting Middle Keys. MCSO reports heavy traffic in Upper Keys but no accidents. There is an extensive traffic camera network available at http://www.511southflorida.com/.
Visitors on the way out, winds increasing in approaching squalls.

Pinellas County Schools will make the final decision on if school will open on Tuesday or not.

Again, St. Petersburg College is closed on Monday. USF and Eckerd have shown no signs of closing.
