I am not to sure what you consider a long time to be but you only have to go back 6-7 years for a fairly strong one. You may not have to wait that long for another one though. Recent space weather events suggest to me that a La Nina is in the making....need to look over data a little better....busy on home front...discussion about it by early next week.

ConvergenceZone wrote:You can sure see the signs out there. I do think we will maybe get two more storms after Stan develops. I was looking back historically, and there are PLENTY of years where the activity drops off like a rock the first week of October. It's really hard to say if we will make it to the Greek Alphabet. Prior, I was thinking that there was a good chance, but now, as the calendar days click on, I'm thinking the chance isn't quite as good, but I could be wrong of course.

I think this year I'm really anticipating the end of the season. I don't think I ever felt this way before. Amazing what devastation can do to one's thinking. I'm just glad Rita wasn't the cane they all thought it would be.

just remember that we had a short break like this earlier this season and it then sprouted back up. i hope it will remain slow, but i'm just saying it happened before.

It's amazing how things can change....A quiet "hard-to-believe
it's-hurricane-season" middle part of august
and then the worst natural disaster in US History hits
as a horrific result for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in late August,
hardly a few weeks later...

That is one of the best summaries (and the simplest) I have seen of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season so far.

At the time, this was the remnants of pathetic TD 10. Somewhere along there is another wave that merged with ten to spit out TD 12/Katrina.
