I will really show my age with this post.....I clearly remember Connie and Diana that hit Delaware and S. Jersey in 1955. I went to college in Delaware, and My Father had to drive me home over the Bridge in Hurricane force winds....That was the Scariest until Jeanne, Francis and Wilma down here in W. Palm..

1. Hurricane Frederic - Still my benchmark.
2. Hurricane Katrina - 80 mph gusts over a prolonged period.
3. Hurricane Ivan - probably gusts around 100. Power out 5 days.
4. Hurricane Danny - massive rain event. 80 mph gusts.
5. Hurricane Wilma - in Melbourne, FL at the time. Gusts around 80 I guess.
6. Hurricane Camille - just a kid, but remember the mass hysteria.
7. Superstorm of '93 - 4" of snow in Mobile, and thundersnow. This one was fun.
8. Hurricane Elena - Really not that much to it here. 50 mph gusts? Dauphin Island got it pretty bad though.
9. Don't know what year it was, probably late 80's, but a lightning storm like no other. Woke up and turned the radio on and the first words I heard were "don't panic".
10. Tornadic winds - Oklahoma City 1974. Actually, it happened more than once that summer. Spending lunch in the basement of McDonald's drinking free coca-cola.

Just a couple here:
Hurricane Floyd ('99)
Carolina Tornado Outbreak (Mar '84)
By the time Fran and Bertha got up here it wasn't too bad. Isabel went north of where I used to live in '03, so I got lucky in that one.
Of course, anytime we get snow here, one would think it's a disaster - lol.

1. Hurricane Andrew - Chaos with no help in sight for the first few days. Watched a house, two away from mine, burn down to the cinder blocks. No fire department, no police, no one. There were also no traffic lights, no stop signs, no stores for basic supplies and most roads impassable.
About two months later (still no power and 5 months pregnant), I drove down my street after dark and was confronted with the National Guard aiming a massive gun at me from the back of an open Humvee. The curfew was still in effect and we had no right to be out after dark. I was "escorted" home.
The weird part was that I was working the Friday before (it hit early Monday morning) and there were no news reports and no preparation being done. The warning was not sounded until late Friday night and still, many were not taking it seriously.
Living near the water and with a fear of flooding, we chose to stay in a hotel further inland near the airport. This great little hotel (that my grandmother had found with rooms for everyone) turned out to be a rubber sheet, mirror on the ceiling kind of place! With all the stress, we just could not enjoy it
! At about 4 am, with water pouring in around the ceiling mirror, the roof started to peel off and the wind came in. We ran down the outside corrider through the howling wind and rain with a deafening amount of noise to my Grandparent's room. Thank God their room was still dry.
Little did we realize that night was nothing compared to what laid ahead. A tee shirt I still have says "I survived Hurricane Andrew but the recovery is killing me!"
2. After that, nothing compares.
3. Wilma was a huge pain with no power for 10 days and a bunch of superficial damage.
4. Katrina was a drag with lots of rain.
5. Blizzard of 78, I lived South of Boston. I was 14 and it was fun for a kid.
The next five will be in the next 40 years

Let me see if I can think of 10
In no particular order
Hurricane Erin {1995} 1st cane, was only 12 yrs old
1998 tornado outbreak. Watched my house get destroyed, have a permanent scar on right kneecap from broken glass
Hurricane Charley: Scared me even more than tornadoes.
Hurricane Frances. She dragged on, and on.. and on..
Hurricane Jeanne. Enough with the canes already
Supercell on 6/17/05. I was at work, outside as it rolled in.. ran in and watched helplessly as buggies and everything were getting thrown around
1998 Wildfires. The entire state burned. Plus I hated no fireworks
1998 heatwave. Too many 100 plus days
Superstorm of 93. Lots of severe weather here.
Graduation night tornado. {5/22/01} Only an f-0 or f-1.. But my sisters car still got picked up and tossed back down. {she was in it driving to my graduation at the time}

Can honestly say that probably the worst natural disaster I've been through is probably the Blizzard of '93 when I lived up in Philadelphia. I was young then, so I don't remember a whole lot. After that, It'd probably have to be Jeanne and then Frances, both not very strong coming through my neck of the woods.
I hope to keep my "worst disasters" at 3. lol
