Its NOT just the pilots... there are 4 other people on board besides the pilots.

My point about needing to be medicated didn't just apply to the pilots. I'd have to be medicated AND strapped down.

Well, luckily Houston doesn't have a problem now :) But Dean caused the shuttle to come home earlier. She will land tomorrow and there is a chance she will fly over Dean at high altitude. If the shuttle is in a turn then, the astronauts will get a really close look at Dean.

I know it wasn't directed to NASA and I think with Marshall you mean the mod who made the oops?

I just made the remark because I am a space fan too and those two things interconnected when you said Houston. Wrong channel, wrong moment, sorry!

Well, I wish you and the rest of the hurricane hunters all the luck. I think flying into hurricanes must be the most dangerous thing to do in peacetime with the C-130 and I am sure some of the crews have had hairy moments with extreme turbulence or wind shears.

But I have not read about a hurricane hunter plane going down in a hurricane, so I guess it is very scary and difficult, but the views must be worth it once inside the eye ;)

On the NOAA planes, there are far more people that fly. It is not just the polits. The Rita flight I was on, there were more than 10 people that flew that mission.

It is not as bad as everyone says. Flights are not always rocky

Well, a plane doesn't care if the winds are 100 mph or 300 mph, the turbulence matters. So I guess the turbulence isn't really bad even in the eyewall? And do you feel the plane yawing and the pressure dropping in the plane when you penetrate the eyewall into the eye?

Historic flight!

Correct me if I'm wrong.

This could be the first recon mission of a land falling cat 5.

My point was that this could be the first time a recon mission is ongoing while a cat 5 is making LF.

Indeed one has. A Navy Hurricane Hunter went down while patrolling Hurricane Janet in 1955. Interesting book on it called "Stormchasers". One came close to going down in Hugo in 1989 (go to Weather Underground to read on that mission). And one went down in the West Pacific if I remember correctly? It is dangerous and my prayers are always are with the crews.

Pojo ---> I'm glad they caught it when they did [whatever it was] and decided to abort versus risk the lives of the men and women aboard. :flag:
