this is a chance for everyone to meet Bill Read. At 7 p.m., June 26 at RSMAS, the greater Miami chapter of the AMS and RSMAS will have NHC director Bill Read as a speaker. This event is open to all, free of charge. Mr. Read will discuss the current state of hurricane forcasting. Directions are included in the link provided above.
I look forward to seeing many from south Florida at the event

Re: Chance to meet NHC director Bill Read
Derek,
I was sitting in the airport at New Orleans a few weeks ago and thought I saw Bill Read walk by and head to a pizza place. I got up and walked down the hall and it was him. Turned out we were on the same plane back to Houston. We talked for a bit while waiting for the plane. Found out that they have programmers rewriting the very old SLOSH program line-by-line. They hope to have the new version finished by the 2009 season. The new version will be able to update coastal data online (terrain changes, etc.). Should be a vast improvement over that old low-res version.
