Hurricane Contest: The Nominations

#1 Postby Cookie » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:10 pm

If this is the wrong place please can this be moved? thanks.

Basically every year we get a couple of really stunning hurricanes. what I've always wanted to know is what people thought was the best "looking hurricane", so looking at how it looks from sat images etc. not taking into account damage or anything else, just on how it looks. a sort of "beauty contest for hurricanes"

So the idea for this contest each member gets to nominate one hurricane and post 3 images . each member can only nominate one hurricane each. also each hurricane can only be nominated once.

please also include the year as well.

then all the forums members will get a chance to vote for the best looking hurricane and be whittled down to the final best looking hurricane.

I hope that makes sense any questions don't hesite to ask in this thread.

here is my nomination

Super Typhoon Choi-Wan 2009

so Super Typhoon Choi-wan 09 cant be nominated for again.

so get you're nominations in :)

Don't mean to get all "guess-that-storm" on you, but who could forget this underrated beauty?

You need to post those images of the TY as it was going through the ERC (especially the one from last night showing both eyewalls perfectly!)

Yes, please follow the rules that cookie requested in the original post. Also, you may know what tip looked like but we do get many "guests" and there may be some guests who are not familiar with tip.

The most spectacular I can recall was this one - Cyclone Monica (2006), the most perfect structure I have ever seen while just off Australia's northern coast:

My nominee has already won the title of the deadliest ATL hurricane of the 20th century. He was a killer but he was an amazing storm, and he is : Hurricane Mitch

Well, this is awfully tough. There have been a lot of spectacular looking storms and some of my favorites have already been nominated. But I guess I'll put in a nomination for Gilbert:

That was an impressive storm.

Was thinking of Allen 80 and Frances 92, but in the end, I thought that the best looking storms were ones where they outright looked "mature" and as far as I can say, it says something when a storm is so strong that it had a ring of convection that appeared to surround the actual typhoon:

For that reason, I nominate 2008's Typhoon Jangmi (Ofel).

Hurricane Katrina (2005).

Somehow, I find Gilbert more impressive than Wilma. Monica of 2006 is very impressive. It looks more impressive than Tip or even Katrina.
