I noticed that too, also there is little or no convection over Africa, I think that the reason may be that the supressed phase of the MJO has reached that area.

That sure is an impressive SAL wave. With what I don't see over Africa I wouldn't be at all surprised if the CV season is done. Though not a highly active season I think this one will be talked about for a while.

Wow. Door closed. Time to get ready for the western Caribbean action that we would look for no matter what the season has been like to date. I am of the opinion that if we have a hurricane issue for any land mass, it will come from this region. Good post on that SAL, have not looked out there is some time....

Actually the hurricane season 2009 never ramped up to wind down.

So far, almost everything in this hurricane season has occurred in one month (Aug. 11 to Sep. 12).

Looks like the end of the Cape Verde season for sure. Still an outside chance of development closer to U.S., but the westerlies are still persistent, and with each passing day the chances dwindle. I predicted 10/5/2 at the beginning, so I'm way over. Thought we would start seeing some significant cold fronts, but the latest trough is forecast to stall over or near the coast. We are receiving beneficial rainfall, so no complaints here. Quiet tropical season for the Gulf was overdue.

Could be, afterall the Cape Verde season is usually done by Sept. 20th or so --- but GFS and ECMWF show a Cape Verde wave that makes a run at development starting this weekend. This wave stays very far south and avoids this SAL...we shall see what happens.
