TD Bonnie Reports from Louisiana Gulf Coast, stay safe all

#1 Postby artist » Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:57 pm

If this could be stickied so our firends in the islands can report what they are receiving from 97l. I understand there are lots of warnings for flooding in PR tonight. Not sure of other places, but where ever there are affects from this stay safe all and know we are thinking of you! Let us know what is going on.

Artist, good that you made this thread for all of us who live in the islands.Although, I have been posting the flood warnings on the Caribbean thread at USA & Caribbean Weather forum, we can post here news about what is going on in the different islands where the rain from 97L has been almost non-stop. I will post tommorow because morfeo is caling me to bed. :) and I know it is going to be a long day.

Good morning everyone,

Vieques got hit really bad yesterday morning. It started at about 12:20 am and the heavy rain did not stop until about 5 am and we have light rain after that most of the day. We have had major flooding and also have many trees down. Not from the wind but the saturated ground.

All phones are out as well as DSL. I just now finally got a connection with my Sprint air card which I have for emergencies such as this. Businesses are not running as normal since they cannot take credit cards.

Before our weather station stopped transmitting at about 6 am yesterday we had received 5.80" of rain. We think it stopped transmitting due to the fact it is wireless and relies on its own solar power and we have not seen sun here since thursday or friday (to early to remember). It is a Weatherhawk system and when it comes back online you can see it at http://www.playacofi.com/weather

That's all for now, I will update the next time I get a connection.

It looks like Vieques was pounded with rain for many hours. Stay safe and hopefully the rain goes away soon and you get the connection back.

- A 3D Day: Dark, Damp, Dreary!
By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>

Good Evening!

It was a perfect day for indoor projects! Nothing at all dreary about that, especially with some nice music on the side and comfort food to see me through. With the internet down most of the day it was impossible to get anything out. Hope that this is not going to happen too often. The day started out kind of mixed as if it could not decide what to hand us. Well, to my surprise I heard from a few friends that we had been pummeled all night by thunderstorms. I fell into such a deep sleep the night before that I don't think I moved once. I was dead to the world. I did not hear a thing. Very unusual.

By noon, it started getting kind of dark. I was amazed at how accurate the weather forecast has been. "Thunderstorms in the afternoon..." And that's how it was all afternoon and has not stopped raining since; sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier. On the Weather Channel the wide area of heavy rain was shown covering the Virgin Islands with St. Croix being mentioned as being hit first and then beyond. It's coming from south to north. To me it seems like a wheel of rain, a rotation, it goes round and round. As a matter of fact, it will be investigated tomorrow from below and above to find out if it has the ingredients proper for a Depression. The general belief is that it could very well be BONNIE getting ready to make her appearance. The computer models have this system going towards Florida.

Behind this system there are other tropical waves moving along from east to west; most of them will pass near us or through us. As we approach the peak months of the hurricane season, Aug., Sept., and October, we will see more and more of this activity on a heightened level. NOAA went so far as to predict 23 named storms. We've only seen one so far, ALEX. That makes the dubious lose confidence and let their guard down. Watch and pray and learn about hurricane preparedness.

There's a lot of flooding out there in all the affected region. Be safe if you must go out. The rain should last at least another day, if not longer. The next system is expected on Saturday, according to the local weather lady on TV2. Have a good night and God bless us all.

Isabel

Guadeloupe, Martinica and the Northern Leewards are always under an yellow alert.
Here are some measurements in the differents islands given Meteo-France:
St Marteen 36 millimeters (yesterday night).
Guadeloupe 24 millimeters at Le Raizet (airport), Petit-Bourg 20 millimeters.

See how the islands are always facing the assaults of 97L, frankly let's hope that this system will really move away.

Nasty breakfast for this morning... Our local radio is just reporting localized flooding at les Abymes no so far of our airport of Le Raizet. Firemans are helping a family... their house have been litterally flooded. The situation is becoming worrying for some islands now, especially Vieques PR. Best thoughts my carib friends.

Looks like it is time to include the Bahamas/Florida/Cuba in this...then further down the line somewhere in the GOM. Hope everyone is, and stays, safe!

Moisture should be on the increase here in Miami, any minute now.

Any word on what is happening in the Bahama's right now? Looks like they are getting a lot of rain. Wishing them all well.
