Bryan Norcross is new Hurricane Specialist at TWC
I saw him today at TWC being presented as hurricane specialist.I know many of you know him, so this will be great for TWC to have him with Dr Richard Knabb.

Was he the person that did that mental stint when Hurricane Andrew came through, like 18 hours non stop on the air?!

Great Choice! Amazing OCM and an extremely knowledgeable Tropical Specialist. My choice while living in the Keys.

This is an upgrade that was sorely needed. John Hope's death left a huge void in their hurricane coverage. The addition of Norcross will give viewers confidence by way of his calm, authoritative delivery. When he speaks, people will listen.

KWT, Norcross was on the air live for about 24 hours. He literally talked South Florida through Andrew as his station, WTVJ, was the only one still on the air when Andrew struck about 5 a.m. You can see some of his work that night in the YouTube link below as he's joined by WTVJ anchors Tony Segreto and Kelly Craig, both of whom also are no longer with the station. Segreto retired last year to cap a 40-year career at that station and Craig was laid off after being there for nearly 20 years. The station is crap now.

Uh, channel 7 was still on the air. I was watching it, not Bryan, when Andrew hit.
I'm glad to see him at TWC. Now, perhaps, we'll get more than the minute quicky update they give us. TWC has been worthless for T.S./hurricane coverage since John Hope passed away.

That's the same guy. I saw him at a bookstore in Tavernier where he did about an hour-long presentation to promote the book. Very interesting guy. He listened patiently and gave reasoned answers even when the "I invented a machine that can stop hurricanes" people started talking.
Norcross probably saved lives the night Andrew hit by telling people not just to take the storm seriously, but how to shelter in interior rooms, to get ready ahead of time with a mattress or whatever they could find to protect themselves, because he knew many people had not evacuated and were going to get incredible winds inland, unlike with many storms where surge is the primary killer.

I've not read his book, but I sat through Andrew (one county up where it was basically a cat 1, and my very first hurricane) and I had a tiny, hand-held TV. I was watching channel 7 and it did not go off air at 5 A.M. as that was about 20 minutes after we lost power and I was still awake (and in all honesty) scared and watching TV trying to forget about the noise outside.
To me, at the time, they had the best coverage. Then again, I wasn't in S. Dade, where things were flying apart and where he told terrified people what to do. Here, that wasn't necessary.

I was just wondering the other day what Norcross was up to these days. Glad he's continuing work with hurricanes. I hope TWC treats him well and starts respecting the tropical update more again.
