The story of 2023 so far

Still perhaps my 'favorite' (difficult to say favorite due to the extreme damage it caused) Atlantic hurricane photo since I started tracking. This image of Eta is so menacing. Taken at 0350z on November 3 when Eta had a 8.3/8.4 raw T#, the highest I've ever seen in the Atlantic basin. A recon pass 40 minutes prior showed a pressure of 922 mb and SFMR up to 135 kt. Final T# continued to rise until 0650z and peaked at 7.3 (was a 6.4 at the time of this image). Of course we'll never know Eta's true peak since there was an unfortunate recon gap between 03z and 11z. By the time recon arrived at 11z final T# was on the decline at 6.4 and raw T# even dropped to 5.8 due to an EWRC. But despite the infamous recon issues with Eta, it resulted in some of the craziest and most memorable days on the forum.
