4th named storm of the year...
Fun fact: Over the past 30 years, normalizing for today's naming conventions, the mean date for the 4th named storm of the Atlantic Season is August 18 (2011 is 23 days ahead of mean). The median date is August 22 (26 days ahead). The standard deviation is 20 days, leaving the "window" to be between July 29 and September 8... leaving 2011 to be well ahead of normal.

If we do in fact see Emily form (named as a tropical storm) on 7/31, the 2011 season will tie the 1995 season for the 2nd earliest E named storm in the past 30 years (1981-2011)....impressive!!!
Current standings for earliest date of E-named storm (Atlantic, 1981-2010):
#1: 2005 (Emily formed on 7/11)
#2: 1995 (Erin formed on 7/31)
#3: 1990 (sub-TS Edouard formed on 8/3) tied 2008 (TS Edouard formed on 8/3)
Current standings for earliest date of E-named storm (Atlantic, 1981-2010):
#1: 2005 (Emily formed on 7/11)
#2: 1995 (Erin formed on 7/31)
