Incredible Satellite Archive Database

#1 Postby RL3AO » Fri Jul 14, 2017 9:58 am

I just discovered this remarkable satellite archive created by Philippe Papin from UAlbany. It's an IR satellite imagery archive from the Western Hemisphere for the hurricane seasons of 1980 to 2009. Enjoy!

There is also a YouTube channel called Force 13 that has Worldwide Satellite Animations for 1980-2016, which is very cool!

The August 2005 replay, yea I went there first, is amazing. You can almost hear the season cancel posts as what would be Katrina struggles until it finally develops. Fantastic resource.

love watching andrew form.. its a sheared mess has the classic blow up of convection from shear( just like with td4 recently which why you just never know) just to die off again. nearly losses all convection multiple times..

the wave leaves africa august 14th

Impressive!

Disappointed they don't have the CPAC or the WPAC. I really wanted to see some of these classic storms...

This really is amazing. I watched several storms from the 80's that I always wondered what they would have looked like but never found satellite loops. 1985 is a crazy GOM year to watch!

Any idea if and when they may add 2010-2016?

Use HURSAT as that has almost every worldwide storm back to 1980.

It is eerie how close 2004 is to this year looking at satellite loop from June to present day.

What’s cool about this is the is a google earth hyperlink poly line in each file that links to all the imagery chronologically. I did it on my cellphone.
