I mean, I'd have to imagine they are having a much better time with TCRs compared to the TCRs for the 2020 Atlantic season alone 8-)

Mindy got a big intensity bump. Went from 40 kts to 50. I remember when we were debating whether Mindy should have been upgraded in the first place.

That just leaves Ida, Rose, and Sam in the Atlantic and Hilda, Terra, and Sandra for the Pacific.

Does anybody have an idea or know when Ida and Sam's TCRs will be released?

Sam has been released. No upgrade to Cat.5.

Its hard to upgrade a hurricane to cat 5 if its controversial. Matthew without a doubt should be downgraded.

Sam was a borderline case for a CAT 5, if Recon got there when it looked even better on Satellite, then maybe it could been a CAT 5, the NHC had terrible luck with Recon for Sam

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Now it’s pressure supports a Cat 5 upgrade even more. KCZ using 929mb yielded 137 kt IIRC.

C’mon guys, downgrade Matthew. It keeping its status gets more ridiculous every year that passes.

Fingers crossed we don’t get any recon train wrecks like Eta and Sam this year. Sam very likely being a Cat 5 but the NHC not extrapolating its peak by much is just like Eta.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I agree, Matthew will likely have to be downgraded to a 150 or 155 mph storm. Assuming that 934 mbar pressure holds up, it's sort of hard to imagine it was ever a Cat 5.

Alas, we now find ourselves waiting for the signature storm from the 2021 Atlantic season:

Ida.

According to the NHC report, Sam had the longest duration of major hurricane intensity (7.75 days) since Ivan ‘04, and is tied for the ninth-highest MH duration of any storm in the Atlantic database. Very impressive. I’m doubtful we’ll see such a potent fish storm for a while.

It was at 942mb when it was a cat 5.
But that further validates your point
