Yeah we don’t want to see Harold, Idalia, or Margot, or god forbid Katia be worse than the storms they replaced.

I can already imagine the comparisons if Katia becomes Katrina 2.0...

We also really don't want Alex or Dexter to top their predecessors lol

It's too early to assess the damage of Idalia and compare it to Irma (I hope the low population density of Big Bend helps keep the numbers down), but it's quite eerie that Irma's replacement made landfall in Florida mainland at a higher intensity than Irma did.

It’s very unlikely it’s as bad as Irma but it could be worse than Irene. I could see it be the next Laura which also mostly hit rural areas.

Lake Charles took a direct hit from Laura.

It's interesting this particular name slot has a shot of being retired three uses in a row: 2011 (Irene), 2017 (Irma), 2023 (Idalia), each one being stronger on it's US mainland landfall

I believe Irma was stronger than Idalia on its Florida Keys landfall though.

But that wasn't a mainland landfall, that was Naples, which was 115.

The Keys landfall was indeed 130.

That is very much a possibility, but hopefully, Margot will be strong enough to weaken the subtropical ridge enough to allow Lee to recurve out to sea.

Nothing will ever top a W -> E track through the Caribbean tbh.
Maybe a NE -> SW track down the East Coast would do it.

How about a N to S track through the Caribbean leading up to a landfall in Panama?
