2022 Tropical Waves

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sat May 14, 2022 7:15 am

This thread will have all the tropical wave details posted to not have this forum inundated with threads about all of them as all will be here so follow this thread to the end of season. If for any reason, I can't come to post like not having power or internet anyone can continue the sequence of them.

Wave #1 was introduced on May 8.

First Tropical Wave

5/14/22 12:05 UTC

A central Atlantic tropical wave has its axis near 50W from 02N
to 14N moving westward around 20 kt. The CIMSS MIMIC satellite
derived TPW (Total Precipitable Water) depicts a pool of deep
moisture trailing the wave to near 34W. Satellite imagery shows
scattered moderate convection east of the wave axis to 40W from
07N to 09N, and within 150 nm west of the wave axis from 05N to
08N. The wave is forecast to approach the Windward Islands early
Mon, and move across the eastern Caribbean from Mon and through
Tue.

Wave #1 at 10:05 UTC Eastern Pacific discussion. This wave was introduced on May 8 so is two full weeks:

A tropical wave extends southward from southeastern Mexico along
across Mexico-Guatemala border into the Pacific Ocean near
02N92W, moving W at 5 to 10 kt. Scattered moderate convection is
evident from 08N to the Guatemala-El Salvador coast between 87W
and 98W.

Image

Wave #2 at 12:05 UTC discussion:

An Atlantic Ocean tropical wave is along 58W/59W, from 13N
southward, moving westward at 15 to 20 knots. Although this wave
is weaker than it was several days ago, low level wind shifts were
noted on the past several upper air soundings from Cayenne,
French Guiana that are characteristic of a tropical wave passage
and this provides some confidence of the position of the wave.
This is supported by weak cyclonic turning noted in lower level
satellite vector winds near where the tropical wave axis is
analyzed. Trade wind convergence is supporting a line of weak
showers east of the tropical wave axis, from 07N to 09N between
53W and 58W.

Re: 2022 Tropical Waves: Wave #3 introduced SSE of Cabo Verde Islands

#13 Postby cycloneye » Sun May 22, 2022 11:32 am

Wave #3 was introduced at 12z surface analysis on 5/22/22.

A tropical wave is over the E Atlantic with axis from 01N to 11N
along 21W, moving west at 10-15 kt. The wave is being engulfed by
a Saharan Air Layer Outbreak, which is limiting the convection to
scattered moderate and in the vicinity of the monsoon trough or
from 02N to 07N between 18W and 28W.

#14 Postby cycloneye » Mon May 23, 2022 7:20 am

Wave #1 at Eastern Pacific 10:05 UTC discussion:

A tropical wave extends southward from the Gulf of Tehuantepec,
Mexico into the Pacific Ocean to near 03N94W, and is moving W at
5 to 10 kt. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are
occurring from 07N to the coast of Chiapas and Guatemala between
90W and 99W.

Waves #2 and #3 at 12:05 UTC discussion:

An Atlantic Ocean tropical wave is along 24W from 12N southward,
moving westward 15 knots. This feature remains poorly organized
and drier air associated with Saharan dust is preventing any
shower or thunderstorm activity near the wave axis.

A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 65W, from 15N southward,
moving westward 10 knots to 15 knots. Scattered moderate
convection is evident over eastern Venezuela near the wave axis.

#15 Postby cycloneye » Tue May 24, 2022 7:03 am

Waves #2 and #3 at 12:05 UTC discussion on 5/24/22:

A weak eastern Atlantic tropical wave is along 28W/29W from 01N
to 10N, moving west at 15 kt. This feature remains poorly
organized and drier Saharan air is limiting shower or thunderstorm
activity, particularly on the northern half of the wave.
Scattered moderate convection is noted near the wave axis from
00N-02N between 26W-29W.

A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 70W from 14N southward,
moving westward 15 kt. A few thunderstorms are near the trough
axis over Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela, while no significant
weather is occurring over water.

#16 Postby cycloneye » Wed May 25, 2022 7:24 am

Waves #2 and #3 at 12:05 UTC discussion on 5/25/22.

The axis of a tropical wave is analyzed along 33W from 00N to
09N, moving W at 10 to 15 kt. While the tropical wave amplitude
has waned over the last few days, a recent scatterometer pass
confirmed cyclonic winds at the surface. No convection is present
at this time with this wave.

The axis of a tropical wave is analyzed along near 75W from 15N
southward, moving westward at 10 to 15 kt. The wave is producing
scattered thunderstorms over northern Colombia, however no
significant convection is observed over water.

18:05 UTC discussion of wave #4.

A new tropical wave has been added to the 1200 UTC surface map
with an axis along 12W extending from 01N into West Africa up to
13N. The system has a well-defined near-surface circulation as
seen in the METEOSAT visible imagery. Scattered moderate
convection is noted north of 03N east of 18W.

#19 Postby cycloneye » Thu May 26, 2022 6:59 am

Waves 2-3-4 on 12:05 discussion at 5/26/22:

An Atlantic Ocean tropical wave is along 15W, south of 13N and moving
westward at 10-15 kt. Interaction between the wave and the monsoon
trough results in scattered moderate to isolated strong convection
from 02N to 11N and E of 19W.

An Atlantic Ocean tropical wave is along 39W, south of 10N and moving
westward at 10-15 kt. No deep convection is associated with this
feature.

A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 79W, south of 17N and
moving westward near 10 kt. Interaction between the wave and the
East Pacific monsoon trough allows for a few showers near the
trough axis in the Caribbean Sea and strong thunderstorms over the
Gulf of Panama on the Pacific side.
