This is going to be quite an interesting month. Given it's a La Nina year and that there's no Atlantic Nino in play, I'm thinking 5 as a very bullish estimate. Yeah I might sound crazy, but we've certainly had a handful of October-loaded La Nina years in the past, and with the very warm W. Atlantic (maybe a storm or two in the subtropics)...who knows?

I’m going the complete opposite as Cat5 and being super bearish: zero storms after September. The VP forecast looks awful for the middle of October, with a sinking branch over the Atlantic and Africa, and rising air over the EPac and Central America. Plus, why would things improve late in ASO when it’s nearly peak climo and the Atlantic is the least favorable it’s been since the 90s?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Going with a more realistic 3-6 storms (voted 4) rather than the absolute season cancel that seems to be in fashion lately

Voted 4. I expect Western Caribbean and GOM activity in the month.

Voted 3. October is tricky, the W-Carib usual culprit but it's not delivered much so far in early season. Late season fronts with the changing seasons might generate one or two.

Going with 3 this time around. Slightly above average for the month.

Three storms will form- though none of them will be of any consequence as the season limps towards an ignominious close.

Voted 3. I think October will be more active than last year. I think we'll see at least one hurricane, possibly becoming a major. Might be the "big one" - I don't agree with the idea that Earl was the Atlantic's only chance at a major hurricane.

I went with 3 with one of them being a major

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

One. It’ll be a short lived weak subtropics storm that’s insignificant as the rest of the season.

Voted three on the prospects of the Caribbean and GOM as points that often get storms in October. It's been a crazy season... still no major and now even Earl may "barely" make Cat 3... for a short while... season didn't pan out to what many/most expected, but October may hold a few surprises.. frankly I hope not... those Caribbean and GOM systems tend to wreak havoc on my state.

Voted 4, but my gut tells there may be 5. If these systems will be the quality storms of the season, we’ll see.

Looks like we could be in for a classic busy La Nina October. The switch almost certainly has flipped.
