When will we get our next Category 5 in the Atlantic?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

To be fair, I think it'll be later this year. Like next month in the WCAR. I have a feeling this question will soon have an answer

Edit: Ian apparently got upgraded to Cat 5 status!

Please refer to a professional meteorologist or an accredited weather research agency otherwise, especially if serious decisions must be made in the event of a potentially life-threatening tropical storm or hurricane.

September 3rd, 2025… hurricane Fernand breaks the drought. Don’t worry, there’ll be a couple of systems tagged at 155 mph to keep everyone speculating in between, though…

(That being said, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see a WCar monster before this season’s up)

Or we might just get several 155-mph storms. :yayaya:

Considering the SSTs and favorable environment I'm going for 2 category 5's this year with the first one already in August. If so it would be the first Atlantic August C5 since Dean in 2007.
