I went with 5... certainly not impossible we see 3 named storms in the first 10 days or so of the month (I would say at least 2 is highly likely). May have a bit of a lull mid-month but have to expect in peak season we could squeeze out another 2 or so.

People said the same thing after a storm-free August last year. Then came Fiona and Ian.

People said that this August would be storm-free due to El Nino, despite the record warm SSTs and below-average SAL.
Then came Gert, Emily, Franklin, Harold, Idalia and Jose.

I just don't think this year will be very active, just a gut feeling, mostly due to the fairly strong El nino. That's fine, we need a break after the last few years :)

No offense intended...but I think gut feelings can be kind of misleading, sometimes. :)

Unless explicitly stated, all information covered in my posts is based on my opinions and observations. Please refer to a professional meteorologist or an accredited weather research agency otherwise, especially if serious decisions must be made in the event of a potentially life-threatening tropical storm or hurricane.

September is peak season. It is always safer to bet on September being more active than inactive, which is why I chose 6 or more storms. This is in line with the past few seasons (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022).

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this poll but hey... I'm going with 4 even though it won't count "officially". My forecasting skills are about as sharp as my timing it seems, lol (day late, dollar short  )

I do not see why this September would underperform previous Septembers. 2018 and 2019 had 7 storms; 2020 had 10 storms; 2021 had 9 storm; 2022 had 6 storms.

We are on the verge of our sixth September storm. We already had five (Katia, Lee, Margot, Nigel, and Ophelia). It appears as if Invest 90L will become Philippe.

Tropical Depression 17L has become Tropical Storm Philippe. There are now six September storms. Six or more has won the poll.
