Pair of nice waves in the Eastern Atlantic

The majority of the convection is located near 35W, but it appears the wave itself is ahead of all the convection. It does seem to be getting some slight inflow near 8N. A few days ago this system had a good circulation, but it weakened due to cooler waters. Since, it has moved WSW and this morning looks interesting. Right now, convection is in the popcorn phase, so no short-term development, but it sure is a sign of wanting to do something. Conditions do appear rather favorable (at least until it reaches 45-50W).

BTW, another interesting wave with a nice circulation has just exited Africa. I would expect it will weaken at this latitude/longitude, but as it moves WSW, it could do something.

The last few weeks there has been talk of a pattern change in the Atlantic starting at around this time. It looks like it's beginning to show with these 2 waves.

Any comments? Has anyone noticed this? I'd like to hear other people's ideas.

Well at least according to the GFS as they discuss the models runs here in the extensive San Juan AFD doesn't develop anything only normal waves AT THIS TIME but of course that could change quickly as we are entering slowly but surely the meat of the season.

That wave that just came off the African coast this moring looks like it has a nice circulation.

AVN and Ukmet Models show a well defined wave approaching the islands in about 5 days---shows up well on SLP on both http://met.psu.edu/tropical/tcgengifs/

Surprised that they even mentioned it, though of course it looks good when exiting Africa, and it has potential to become something down the road, since that's always a possibility this time of year. Maybe they're bored too. :roll:
