There's eyewall replacement cycles, but to my knowledge I've NOT seen one "hurricane" reform a center ... tropical storms, yes, all the time, but to reach hurricane status and then reform a center ... well, this is news to me ...

Well, Earl in 1998 reformed many times in its life, though it wasn't a typical hurricane. It never even had an eye.

Earl was a classic hybrid hurricane ... enhanced strongly by dynamical forces.
