Debris blocks rescuers from searching for life and limb!!!!!

#1 Postby jeff and shirens weather » Sun Aug 15, 2004 6:52 am

The news is grim today. A report on ABC news says that over 30 mobile home parks alone in Charlotte county have major damage to them. Some with a thousand units; that is not good. Bob Carpenter, a spokesman for the Sheriff said the damage is so bad that they can not even get any rescue vehicles in the parks. However they did send teams of search and rescue people searching for life and limb. Some of you on S2K are saying that this hurricane is not as bad as Andrew was. Some of the reports that I have heard are typical of the same damage caused by Andrew. Airplanes tossed around like a child got upset and threw a toy airplane down and it broke into pieces. Houses being lifted off their foundations and put on top of other houses. After the National Weather Service surveys the damage they may very well list this one with Andrew I believe. Any way you look around this questions come to my mind, How many dead and injured do we have? Apparently a lot of communities back inland also were not heeding the warnings. God gave us common sense. Now I am not blaming anyone out their; Its just that even with computer models, knowing where highs and lows are, and troughs, Radars, and satellite photos does'nt always mean were going to hit the forecasts and projections correct. Our local authorities need to use all those things I just named, but also use good old fashioned common sense. WE learn from this experience like all others. We all know Mother Nature can fool even the best technology. Right now we all need to concentrate on search for survivors and letting relatives know if their loved ones are alive or dead. Its now time to pick up the pieces. Every one needs to pull together in times of catastrophes and they usually do. I hope and pray the body count is lower than expected. Also the search for friends which I forgot to add in their. Jeff And Shiren
