The panic has begun here in S. Fla

#1 Postby mb420 » Thu Sep 23, 2004 2:47 pm

Went to Publix this am...NO WATER! Went to get gas down the street...NO REGULAR GAS LEFT! Lines are out to the street at every station I drove by. Went to Lowes as they are usually slower than Home Depot....Not bad. Plenty of tapcons, water and of course they are moving all hurricane related supplies up towards the front of the store on pallets. I would guess that by Friday we will be seeing scenes on the news of 2-3 hour waits for plywood etc. How is it in your area?

I think people here on th Space Coast are numb after the last 2 storms. I was able to get gas with no problems and plenty of water. Cindy

I can't imagine how shell shocked you all must be.
It's a nightmare.
Good luck!

Just got back home from unhurricane-supply related trip around NPB (my supplies are filled). Lowe's, Home Depot, Publix, K-Mart are all packed. Lines of traffic at gas stations (glad I topped off this AM). Probably will run out of a lot of items by this evening.

Panic?

One Publix had no bottled water on the shelves and one gas station was out of Regular.

Oh. My. God.

Not saying it's not time to be concerned and prepare, but I'm ready to ask the mods to start treating the word "Panic" like the word "-removed-."

 :D

West Palm was a mess at lunch... the parking lot at Lowes on Northlake was a zoo, but supplies seemed readily available (I finally got my ladder!).

Rumors of gas station lines and grocery store lines being atrocious surfaced after everyone got back from lunch.

Haven't been out to Publix or the gas stations yet, but I'm sure they're bad and will only get worse over the next couple of days.

Volusia - Publix was packed at lunchtime, but still had stacks of batteries and many pallets of water up front. Even found boxed milk this time!

Gas stations still ok here.

A coworkers actually got a generator today.

Did hear the lines were forming at stations in W Palm Beach earlier today.
Walgreens in WPB did not have alot of batteries (D and C) available this morning.
I gotta get dog food, (and cat food) - can't let them get hungry!
I do feel sorry for people who threw out their plywood from previous storm. :(

OK - how do you get the little emoticon faces to come on??

I hit Publix & Wal-Mart earlier today, both had plenty of everything but were very busy for a weekday morning around 10-11am if you ask me. I found lamp oil I needed, wahoo!! :D

Key Largo you know as well as I do that the rush will be on as soon as people catch the 5:00 news here in SFL. She said "panic begins" not we are in a state of panic already. No need to push the Mod button, I think.

Well, I'm not putting away the MREs and bottled water away until November. The way this season has gone, anything is possible. I do hate it that South Florida is under the gun yet again. :(

Situation in Fort Lauderdale still normal.

*So* glad I left all my hurricane supplies out after Frances. For some reason I just thought don't put 'em away quite yet.

For me, I have literally nothing to go get to finish preps. I'll just give the rechargeable batts another shot of juice.

My sister up in West Palm lost lost most of the shingles off her roof after Frances and obviously hasn't had it fixed yet so it's leaking in places. The people up there must be having a heart attack. Poor folks. Hope Jeanne has some mercy on all of us.

Just saw Bryan Norcross and he was showing a graphic of water temps out in the Caribbean and Atlantic. The temp where Jeanne is now isn't terribly warm, but in the Gulf after she passes the Bahamas - there are red spots where the temps are in the 90's. They are figuring that is where it's going to pick up some punch and get to a cat 3.

Man, this is getting old.

On the other hand, I think of the poor people in Haiti and think we really don't know from problems here in the US.
