Blessed power!......

#1 Postby dixiebreeze » Mon Sep 27, 2004 3:44 pm

Power just came on, finally. Just two days for Jeanne, it was about 5 for Frances.

Four trees down in the back yard -- one huge old oak totally uprooted. But nothing hit the house, thank goodness. Hope all S2Kers are OK.

Thank you, Luis. It was a bit scary for a while. Obviously some very high gusts here and lots of rain -- but flooding is minimal so far.

Good to hear from you and know you made out OK. Sorry about the oak tree but at least everyone is OK. Amazing how fast they are restoring the electric. Hope that is the case in Tampa but my son said he was quoted 3-4 weeks. He's not a happy camper and I just sent a hurricane survival kit overnight.

Welcome back!

Lynn, when I called the power company the first day, they also predicted up to 3 or 4 weeks! I think it's mostly a CYA thing. Hope it's back up quick for your family.

Good news, Dixie! I'm glad your family and home made it and you're getting back to regular life. The important thing is you're safe, but it has sure been sad for me to see all these old oaks falling this year.

Welcome back from powerless land. Our power was restored overnight and our cars have now been retrieved from the Tampa airport garage so all is semi-normal here. Still are areas without power even in downtown Sarasota. Glad you are okay, Dixie--hope we are done with this nonsense for the rest of the season...

No power for me as of 5:50 pm on Monday. I'll be out of gas for my generator by morning, so I'll have to go searching for gas tonight. I know the two closest stations are out of gas, so the great gas hunt is on.

Yeah, aquawind, I loooove electricity! We seem to have plenty of gasoline around here. And most restaurants were open, so we didn't have to do much of the cracker and peanut drill.

OrlandoDad:

Wish I could send some gas your way. I overcalculated and had 25 gals at one time. Hubby syphoned 10 into his car leaving 15. I just know if we use it, we'll need it. I'm keeping it as a voodoo curse against hurricanes in SW FL. :)

Seriously, I'm sorry you are still without power-I know it's no fun especially with young ones at home. Good luck in your search. Maybe by the time you get home, the electricity will be back on. That's what happened when I bought my generator!

Orlandodad,

If you get on the turnpike...
I bet you'll find gas at turkeylake plaza, plus we have it here at the St. Cloud exit 244.

Glad to hear everyone is starting to get power back. We just got it back about an hour ago. Thats a record, we spent two weeks combined without power for Charley and Frances. How sweet it is. Hang in there Orlando Dad, it's coming. Now if someone could find a place for all this water, we just about need a boat, and that's no joke!

Dixiebreeze--
Glad you made it okay and have your power back. Now--- we simply have to know-- what did you do about your coffee? Did you follow any of those suggestions in the thread on things we learned from hurricanes you started a week or so ago ?!

Lol, I remember that thread baygirl. Hot coffee takes on a whole new meaning after a hurricane. We were so excited when we realized that a buddy of mine still had power the next morning, and even though the wind was still about 35 sustained with some hefty gusts, I loaded the coffee pot with water and coffee, wrapped it in a big towel, and started wading through the water to get to his house. I kid you not, about 50 feet from his front door, he lost his power too. That just wasn't right.........

I got my power back too!!! Glad to see everyone is safe. I was very surprised power was restored to soon. 15 hours was bad but I really expected it was going to be days. There are still 200,000 people without here in Pinellas. I sure feel for them. Trees down everywhere and the fitness center in our community has roof damage. Traffic lights are down all over too. 30% of schools are still without power so school is out again tomorrow for my son.

Hope FL is done for this season,I've had it.

Baygirl_1, luckily, there were some restaurants and convenience stores with power, so I was able to get my coffee fix. I'll have to try the coffee tricks during a future (??!!) 'cane.

BTW, for all those who would like to add that Survival poll to their favorites, here is the link:
