Once the TUTT returned to the Caribbean the Atlantic was signaling a return to the hostile environment of June & July. The reason two more weak storms formed is because the season was still warm enough to sputter out a couple of formations on the remaining SST's. Both were strongly diminished by these hostile conditions.
The mid-Atlantic has several deeply-penetrating hostile upper and subsiding features that plunged deep into the CV belt. The Caribbean has had dry air all the way down to South America, and several cold fronts have made it through to the Gulf. This week a deep front that will cause 40* daytime highs in the northern plains will make it all the way past Florida and into the Antilles. This will be the coolest air since last April down here.
That could be it for the season unless we see a flash of favorability in late October or early November...
