Who is Considering Moving Out of Florida?

#1 Postby gatorcane » Wed Oct 26, 2005 9:58 pm

With 8 hurricanes hitting in 14 months and the high probability of many more to come over the next 20 to 30 years (we seem to be reverting back to the 1930s-1940s era of hyperactivity), I want a percentage of people that are thinking about moving.

This topic complements the current topic about the question of those who are considering moving out of the state.

Our course most of our South Florida posters are still in the dark so we will have to await their responses.

Im not sure yet. If this keeps on happening the next few years, then I will strongly consider it but right now its a coin toss for me. The next one will likely do it for me.

Well 4 gone, around 10 million to go....

Please leave Florida if you're scared of the hurricanes. We also have aligators and some of them may in fact eat your young children and or dogs if that is further incentive.

Sorry guys but I love it here and want to make sure I'm the tail end of the invasion, and remain during the retreat. :P

So alot of you will still stay if tihs period with 20 or more named storms with 4 to 5 majors a season hits you. For maybe the next 50 years? WOW! I hope that no one gets hurt or killed...

We moved back to Oregon after last year (just never changed our location on this forum). I can honestly say watching hurricanes is a lot less stressful from 3000 miles away, though having my best friend in Key Largo and another good friend in West Palm Beach and more back in Melbourne/Palm Bay (where we moved from) still gets my adrenaline rushing when a hurricane is coming anywhere near those locations.

I was born & raised in Oregon and spent 5 years in Florida, but I never grew to love the state (like dh did). If I had, I would have stayed, hurricanes and all. But I prefer Oregon's climate to Florida's, so moving back was an easy decision for me. Dh, on the other hand, would love to move back someday.

Hey man, you may not realize this but life is a lot more than storms. There are many more things that could kill any of us. Disease, health complications, crime rate, future wars.. I could say that America is going to be facing geopolitical strife in the world for another 50 years why not run away to Switzerland? Why not? Because we are tough homo sapiens and we've been going out and taking what comes at us since we spread out and captured the planet.

I'm not going to let 74 or 150mph winds change my idea of home.

I adore FL. Born and raised in Ohio, I couldn't wait to leave there. Came here a few years ago, and I'm here for the long-haul, I hope. As long as my SO (Miami-born/raised) wants to stay. Might move around the state, but there's no place like Florida. Hurricanes won't scare me away.

People live on active volcano's , what makes you think a little wind and rain is gonna scare off the stubborn human spirit ? I have family in Florida , none of them even consider moving storms or no storms.

With that said , I belive it's pretty easy to see most Floridians are gonna stay right were they are if they are dodging hurricains every other week year round.

So expect the vast majority to stay .... at least till the sea level rises and foces them to grudgingly give up their land to it.

I'd like to move down there to be closer to my family--------plus my love for snow is waning as I age.

I'm leaving in 2-3 months, but it has nothing to do with hurricanes.

I was thinking of moving to New York or Vermont or Maine when I got older but I realized 6 months out of the year its just too cold for me. Also I love tracking and experiencing hurricanes and the warm weather, so Florida is perfect for me.

My Dad's whole side of the family are born and raised here....And being a native myself.....i couldnt imagine living anywhere else.....dealing with hurricanes is just part of life here....just like dealing with the nasty afternoon summer thunderstorms and deadly lightning that could pop out of the sky anytime..........i think any where you live in the U.S. you are going to deal with something.....Mother Nature has no limits!!! :D
