Hmmm... if I read those articles correctly, it appears that they are concerned about POES data stopping... not GOES.

For what it's worth, GOES data will provide plenty of coverage over the tropics. Coupled with as many POES birds flying, both NOAA and USAF, I don't see a "gap" that these articles paint.

Granted, the possibility of decreased coverage exists, but a complete lack of data will simply not occur.

Also, realize that the main mission of many of these POES birds (the military owned satellites) are not meteorological-based.
