That slow feeling that has everyone...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

That slow feeling that has everyone...

#1 Postby tgenius » Thu Aug 10, 2006 6:32 pm

I'd much like to track some Cat5 Fishies..but as many have said, these storms have so many negatives against them (Insurance Costs,Gasoline Costs, Loss of Home, etc.) and having gone through 2005 was not the most pleasant piece (especially for my Disaster Recovery plan at work that must be activated every time a storm comes)

What I do notice is that alot of the people who want a storm badly, are younger people; I don't chastize it because I was EXACTLY the same until I lived through Andrew at the age if 14. It was at this point that my whole perspective changed, and I became quite aware of the damage first hand.

Please hope the shear, the MJO, whatever the heck is causing the invests to remain weak and fall apart to maintain itself, we all need a break!

/end rant :D

agreed, tgenius...i didn't experience andrew, but did live through francis, jeanne and wilma. i cant imagine what a cat 4 or 5 would be like. cats 1,2 and 3 are bad enough. i can still hear the sound of the wind mimicing a freight train, the bowing of the wall adjacent to my garage...the strange straining sounds from the attic...no, i'd be happy with fishes for the rest of this season.

Is it bad to want a storm if your an adult? I'm sorry but I love the weather and love hurricanes. I've never thought of hurricanes as just something for young people. I'm sure the folks at the NHC love them as well. They would not be doing what they do if they didn't. Nobody wishes a cat 5 on anyone. However, I do not see anything wrong with hoping for a cat 5 that drifts harmlessly out to sea.

That's what I said, I would love to track a cat 5 fish, but landfalling hurricanes I pray do not happen this year.

My own personal experience is that there are two ways to experience a storm. As a renter or an owner. When I was a renter, I thought about the inconvenience. As an owner, I thought about the disaster and how much it would cost.

As far as I'm concerned, this "slowness" is WONDERFUL! It can last until Christmas and I'm happy!!! :D

I am enjoying not having to work 12 hour shifts for months on end. I'll be off this whole weekend and won't have to keep checking the tropics every hour. A rarity for mid August. Wouldn't mind another 2-3 weeks of inactivity, but I'm afraid the quiet spell will be ending in about a week as the NAO shifts negative and the trade winds diminish.

I don't even live near the coast and I don't want any landfalling US hurricanes this year. We've had enough the past two years to last a decade, IMO. How can you watch the horror that unfolded last year on Tv and then wish for another hurricane like that again? I just don't see how. If you do, then it's a bit disgusting.

There have been PLENTY of storms to observe this season. The EPAC has been busy, we've had 3 TS in the Atlantic, and the WPAC has been active as well.
