Bolivar peninsula

Bolivar peninsula was apparantly the hardest hit place by Ike.
I read about a 23 ft surge somewhere.

Were there people on that peninsula ?

About 25% stayed in Galveston, they didn't know how bad it would
be in G. as compared with B. , same for B.
So can we assume that about 25% stayed in B. ?
B. has a population of ~4000, 25% would be 1000

I believe I heard on KHOU this afternoon that ~500 stayed on Bolivar, but don't quote me as my brain was sufficiently addled after a day of work to have that muddled. Here's a story I found that has a video showing the damage on Bolivar:

I saw an aerial shot of a very long line of ambulances moving into the Bolivar area earlier today. I would say that there were no less than 30-40 of them.

I wonder, is this for people who need emergency medical care, or for body removal. From the look of the area, I find it hard to believe that very many survivors would be found, compared to the number who succumbed to the storm.

And I am in complete disbelief that there have been only five people who died on Galveston Island. Right now three-quarters of the reported death toll of Ike is outside of the state of Texas. I'm sorry, but there's simply no way that those numbers could possibly match the reality of this awful situation.

I wonder if they've found that tiger yet. He must be very hungry by now.

My husband and I rode out the storm in Beaumont, Texas -- we were lucky to have no damage to our home (lots of tree damage and debris, of course!) -- although we are still without power, we have a generator hooked up and I'm checking Storm2K for the first time since the storm.
