School for PB County
While it's great that most of you have the option of sending your children to school, those of us with teachers in the house (my husband) don't have a choice.
We are figuring he will make the teachers come in at least for a 1/2 day, and maybe the students too. Again, the students have a choice...
I just can't believe all of the people around here still saying "if" it comes this way! Maybe they are doubtful of the NE curve actually happening, but all of the models and forecasts have not wavered on this one since early this week.

I don't see that it makes a big difference whether they make the announcement regarding school closures last minute or not as long as it's before Monday. If they made the announcement too early and something unforeseen happened with the forecast, the same parents would then be complaining that they had to find someone to watch their kids because of no school. It's just not that big of a deal to wait and see, chill!

just remember according to both the NHC and Derek we here in Palm Beach county are to have winds 12-20 mph higher than we recieved with both Jeanne and Frances. I don't know about you but I don't like it! They were definately bad enough! And for each mph the damage goes up incredibly (sory - can't remember the word they actually use - but that is the jest of it).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but look at this excerpt form the Miami NWS Forecast Discussion from this morning:
Here is the link they are referring to:
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/events/?id=isbell
Notice most of the tornados were on the east coast
EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION WILL BE COMMENCING BY THE TIME WILMA
REACHES SOUTH FLORIDA AS MID- LEVEL TROUGH SYNCS UP WITH
HURRICANE. ADDITIONAL MID-LEVEL DRY AIR ASSOCIATED WITH TROUGH AND
SPREADING OUT OF RATHER SUBSTANTIAL WIND FIELD ARE JUST TWO OF THE
FACTORS POINTING TOWARD RATHER SIGNIFICANT TORNADO THREAT FOR
SOUTH FLORIDA ON MONDAY AS WILMA MAKES LANDFALL. FURTHER
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE THAT SEEMS TO BE A REASONABLY GOOD ANALOG FOR
THIS EVENT WAS HURRICANE ISBELL IN OCTOBER OF 1964. SHE SPAWNED
PERHAPS A DOZEN TORNADOES ACROSS SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF FLORIDA
INCLUDING 4 OF F2 INTENSITY ON THE FUJITA SCALE. MORE INFO ON THIS
PAST EVENT IS AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE AT MIAMIWEATHER.INFO

I would expect that PBC schools will be closed Monday all day, not half; as we should be getting a Hurricane Warning on Sunday.
This will give them ample time to make the call.
They get wishy-washy when we have a Hurricane Watch and/or Tropical Storm warning.
This is suspicious since their policy is if winds get over 40 they cancel yet a Tropical Storm Warning is for winds over 40.
This schoiol district is majorly confusing.....

No school for Miami Dade on Monday either. Also no word on Tuesday. Don Noe (sp?) said that he would put up shutters. He said if you wished you had had them up for Katrina you'll definitely want them for Wilma. He also said (if I understood him right) that we will see hurricane force definitely in Miami-Dade and probably gusts over 100 mph.
