galveston will easily still be the worst natural disaster based on deaths.

Good to see your prediction of less than 24 deaths.

I think Hurricane Katrina will go down at the worst natural disaster in history based on deaths.

We already know it will be the worst in terms of dollars. And when you consider the stark contrast of infrastructure in this catastrophe versus the tsunami horror in Asia, this will almost surely be the most expensive catastrophe in the history of the planet.

While it's incredibly sad that we've been dealt this disaster, at least this country is more capable than any other on the planet to recover from a destruction of such scale that virtually any other nation on earth would be brought to its knees. But not this country, not my country. We will rebuild, and learn.

Since no one knows the human toll yet the above statement is premature. Hopefully you are right but there's no way you can be positive as you stated later. Let's try and stick with facts. Lord knows the media is doing enough misreporting on their own....

djtil, your statement should be amended to state "within the United States". Regardless of whether we get the best or worst of news, there have been natural disasters that this one could not even come close to matching worldwide.
