Shouldn't this be the place to find out about the Islands after they were slammed by Dean? Any news?!????

I finally talked to my cousin. He live in Fort-Du-France. He said his house was OK and that most of the damage was in the southern part. And even then, it wasn't that bad.

I believe they had 270 million in damage (about 200 million Euros)

"Martinique experienced 65 knots (75 mph, 120 km/h) winds with gusts to 90 knots (105 mph, 170 km/h).[14] The torrential rainfall caused flooding throughout the island, with the town of Rivière-Pilote flooding completely. The majority of Martinique's population were been left without electricity, water, telephone, or food.[30][31] The storm destroyed Martinique's entire banana crop, and 70% of the island's sugar cane plantations.[32]

Three people were killed, many more were injured, and 600 Martiniquans were left homeless. The banana fields were completely destroyed. Officials estimated the damage on the island at about €250 million (US$337 million).[33]"

So hurricane force sustained win on the south coast, banana crop is gone, as is the majority of sugar cane. Three were killed in Martinique, with six homeless. Hope whoever you're concerned about is okay(they likely are )

My cousin belongs to a co-op for a big diesel generator. He says the electric is unreliable, so a bunch of his neighbors got together and bough a big generator. Kind of neat.
