I slept right through Hurricane Juan, and I woke up the next morning to a tree through my kitchen window, and a tree on top of a car parked in my drive way.

Wait, you slept through that? I suppose I know people who've slept through big earthquakes, so maybe it's possible.

Yes, I slept through Juan. I went for a walk the next day, just before a flash flood. There was about 1,000 trees uprooted in a 10 minute walk around my neighbourhood. My backyard fence was ripped and thrown. Neighbour's trees were in our backyard.

I moved to Debert to get away from it all!

Well, I'm going to hit the hay. Night all. I'll do a damage report in the morning (if I have power). I have a fairly large (75 ft) tree in front yard. If it falls, it will go directly on house.

Ouch!

another confirmed death, now 57 for Haiti

This is starting to remind me of Jeanne where it took almost a week for word to get out regarding the true extent of the devastation, and about a month for a real body count. However, the news continues to trickle in

What kind of sleeping aid are you using! There is no way I could sleep through that.

For the record, even if there are no official reports of hurricane force gusts on Cape Cod or Nantucket, there was at least one hurricane force gust in the US. The station at Mt. Desert Rock, Maine, just reported a wind gust of 64kts with sustained winds of 56 kts.

TWC confirmed the gust well above hurricane force in Barnstable, MA --- I believe it was 80-something mph as someone wrote on here last night.

I think this is a pretty ridiculous headline: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21610582/ ("Remnants of Noel spare New England coast").

Sure, it didn't make a direct landfall, but I wouldn't say that it "spared" New England either. 70mph+ gusts along the coast with reported damage is definitely not "spared".

Well I made it. A few signs & and tree limbs & two large trees in the general area that were in bad shape anyway blown down, and lost power for a bit last night. Oh and my driveway flooded due to that stream as did the parking lot next door, though that is now subsiding. Not as bad as Bob 1991 or November storm 2001, strongest gust 60 mph last night.

In summation I'd have to say that Noel wasn't really all that bad. Sure parts of Massachusetts and Nova Scotia had fair amounts of isolated damage; still it could have been much worse. It was certainly no Long Island Express of 1938, Carol 1954, Edna 1954, Saxby Gale of 1869, or even a Ginny 1963, Bob 1991, Halloween storm 1991, Hybridstorm 2001 or to a much more isolated degree in terms of area affected Juan 2003, thank God.

This time around at least people were taking the threat more seriously than in past years, that much is a blessing.

BTW Here is the link to my blog, it has lots of images an more info to come about the storm:
