GFDN and the GFDL

GFDL (Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory) is the base model. GFDN is the US Navy version of GFDL. They usually present similar solutions, but since they have different model influences, they are different.

Yes, those two models are the same set of equations with somewhat different input values, thus creating the different results.

I had always thought that the GFDL was run off the GFS and the GFDN was run off the NOGAPS. Is this true?
