LLCs and MLCs

#1 Postby Portastorm » Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:38 pm

Earlier tonight, Wxman 57 posted a comment that he believed TD5's LLC would reform under its MLC. When the two are displaced in a tropical system, why would a met feel this alignment could happen? What would you look for to think this might happen?

For the system to develop to any great degree, the two levels of circualtion have to become vertically stacked. I would surmise that he's expecting a relaxation of the shear that's tilting the system. Also, in the early stages of TC development, most of the vorticity is in the mid levels so as the system develops the LLCC will form under the MLC for that reason. Once the system reaches a certain level of development, the most vorticity will be in the lower levels as befitting a full fledged warm core system.
