Multiple recon in one tropical cyclone at the same time

I had this idea of more then 1 aircraft in a hurricane or tropical cyclone at the same time or before one recon ends it's mission another takes off from the base. What this means is a large increase of data at a time and continuous recon coverage. Is this a silly idea or a possible idea but not happening due to money issues and workers? Maybe they could do something like this 6-12 hours before a major hurricane makes landfall or if it's strengthening very rapidly.

Yes, there has been multiple recon in a Hurricane. For Instance, Katrina there were 2 planes inside the storm near landfall. Who ever has the next fix has precedence... than it passes onto the next plane. If its 2 AFRES planes, we will communicate with the other plane on the findings.

Wow, I don't remember that but then again I wasn't following recon during Katrina. That's awesome to hear my idea existed all along

. Has there been anything like that since then?

I wasn't aware of that and I was following Felix's recon from start to finish.

it happened (but barely) at the tail end of one of the flights with NOAA and the beginning of our flight....
