What you're looking at there isn't the "cone of uncertainty" - it's probably the representation of forecast gale force winds, which is progged to shrink as the cyclone weakens/dissipates.

It looks like the Vietnamese ships sank near Taiwan. They had moved to that area to avoid Chanchu, but then Chanchu changed direction.

I've heard between 150-250 are missing. I've been hearing conflicting reports. At least 28 bodies have been recovered. Fortunately, nearly 70 survivors have been rescued.

Overall, Chanchu has killed at least 91.

Chanchu is no more....but what a tropical cyclone that was at its peak...
