Oh, great, already detecting a large circular 40 NM wide eye ...

South Carolina's about to be affected by its FOURTH tropical cyclone ... just in THIS MONTH! ...

Alex - check
Bonnie - check (as an extratropical cyclone)
Charley - check
Gaston - check pending (check is in the mail)

Derek,

What should the effect of this be on the Northern Coast of NC? I like most others really respect your opinion

I'm no expert, but from satellite loops Gaston doesn't appear to be a cane yet, but it may not be long. Very vigorous surface circulation with massing convection. Hurricane chances at landfall look maybe a little better than 50-50.

It's not the winds that are the big danger, or the surge. It's the potential floording rains.

#138 Postby shortwave » Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:23 pm

on the future track of frances. I've heard a little about it possibly weakening part of the ridge thats supposed to build in. Does anyone have more information. All opinions welcome.

It could I guess, but it probably depends on how long Gaston sticks around. If he's history quckly, the ridge would be able to rebuild from any affect he might have. If he sticks around a while though, what would that do?
