Thanks KBBOCA. No observation like local eyes.

Pressure down 1 mbs from the last message so maybe the 11 AM advisory reflects an increase to 90 mph or maybe they will leave it at 85 mph.

Fox News: Charley has winds of 100mph! - NOT
On the Fox News Channel, some reporter at the Hurricane Center live a few mins ago said it has 100mph winds now. But I don't know if she's reporting accurate info, because she says it was still Cat one.

I don't believe that and here's why:
The max flight level winds do not support that. They support 85, maybe 90 mph. NOW, the hurricane DOES have GUSTS to 100 mph right now.
Pressure is down to 983 mb, so I guess there's a chance winds will be up, but I don't have any evidence recon found strong enough winds.

Here you go... Sarasota EOC Mandatory evacuation will be in effect at noon today; county buildings are closed Friday
SARASOTA COUNTY (THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2004) - A mandatory evacuation for mobile homes, barrier islands and low-lying areas will be effective as of noon today (Thursday) due to Hurricane Charley. County buildings are closed Friday. A decision on closing Sarasota County schools will be announced at noon today. Evacuation is mandatory by midnight tonight. Residents in those areas will not be allowed back in the area after that time.
Shelters will open at 4 p.m. today. Evacuees should head east, not north or south. Evacuees should be prepared to be away from home at least two nights, Thursday and Friday. Emergency services will be discontinued as of midnight today. Emergency services will respond to life-and-death situations until sustained winds reach 45 mph. Gusts at that point could be 80 mph. Employers should consider allowing their employees to leave work early today.
The Emergency Operations Center was activated to Level 1 as of 8 a.m. this morning, Thursday, Aug. 12. An evacuation of people with special needs began at 9 a.m. and is expected to take at least 12 hours.
A press conference is scheduled at 10 a.m. today and will be broadcast live over Access Sarasota (Channel 19 on Comcast).
There will be no trash pickup on Friday. Residents are advised not to put out trash, yard waster and recyclables.
There will be no Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) service on Friday. A decision about Saturday service will be made on Friday.
Also, the Sarasota County Hurricane/Flood Preparedness Expo, originally scheduled Saturday, Aug. 14, has been postponed for two weeks until Saturday, Aug. 28. It will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Robarts Arena, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.
The Sarasota History Center exhibit, “Sarasota County’s Medical History,” originally scheduled for Friday, Aug. 13, has been postponed until Sept. 10. It will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the History Center, 701 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
The Sarasota County Health Department will be closed Friday. For pressing matters, call the following emergency contact number, call the Sarasota County Emergency Information at (941) 861-4636. If this is an immediate health emergency, hang up and dial 911.

More likely it's probably not true. I really posted about it to show how the media is can report inaccurate information on these storms. But sometimes the NHC has more info than we they release to the public before their advisories or have different interpertation of how the strong the storm is, for some reason or the other. So we'll just have to see what do the next advisory.
