Looks like some dry air got entrained into the SW quad, slowing the strengthening. I think this is just a temporary blip.

Stronger winds in the NE Quadrant. It just hasn't suddenly weakened in 3 hours. Winds are probably in the 100-105 mph range still.

Winds don't increase till after pressures drop, and the pressure doesn't drop till after the organization improves.

Recon flies a standard "X" shaped pattern through a storm, and there's a VORTEX each time they pass through the center. The first VORTEX of a given flight only has winds from one quadrant of a storm.

I am going to be sleeping soon (just got home from briefing RSMAS regarding the storm's threat to Miami), so I will not be posting everytime a new nwhhc update is made (someone else can if they want to)

Ok thanks Derek ! I'll be checking on the conditions here especially tomorrow night as Charlie moves inland through the SE. Heavy rainfall is likely here tomorrow night through midday SAT along with gusty winds. Unfortunately I won't have time to go to north FL to check it out, but we'll see plenty of action in eastern SC..........

On Isle of Youth.

Very clearly you can see the eye on the loop at the south end. Rotating very nicely. Poor people.

It almost looks like it may skirt the Eastern side of the Isle of Youth and cross Cuba at its most narrow point. Land interaction is really going to be minimal for this storm, esp. given its fast motion.

FWIW, convection has just exploded in the SE part of the eyewall, since the VORTEX.

You are exactly right. There is no land interaction to speak of. It is going east of the Isle of Youth. Watch out Florida.
