#3782 Postby andrew_the_beast » Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:03 pm

Bad timing just before its about to hit JAMAICA and its getting stronger by the minute. Dont be suprised to hear that IVAN has 165 mph sustained at landfall and GUSTS to 200. SAD.

Power106 6PM Newscast Notes: Gangs marauding in two areas. Looters trying to break into businesses in the business district. The radio announcer asked the police to go to Farm(something) road due to current incident reported by a caller. Gun shots being heard. Large dangerous battering waves. Local meteorologist reporting tropical storm force winds at this time (a different met than at 5PM). Interviewing Hugh Cobb from US NHC. NHC is increasing Ivan's wind speed to 150 mph. Eye to pass very close to Jamaica within the next 3-5 hours.

Family evacuated from flooded home in St. James. Two houses washed away in St. (Lost connection.....resumed)

Caller reports (I did my best but names and place names are likely wrong):

Shawn in Edgewater: Canal under bridge is very low. Interviewer asking Shawn why he did not evac and he believes he will be okay.

Joel: Very frightening. Numerous downed power lines. Roads blocked.

Rose: 80yr old mother refusing to evac. Interviewer telling them to pick her up and take her. Now he's talking to 80yr old woman and telling her to leave because the house may collapse at anytime.

Ester in Spanish Dome: Raining terribly, wind extremely high. Neighbors about to lose their roof.

Emillio in Beverly Hills: From Barbados. First Hurricane. 22yo. I'm very scared.

Hugh in St. Anne: The ocean is really boiling up out there. Talking politics. Wants mandatory evacuations to be compelled by forces and services to be required to have generators.

Andrew in St. Mary: Trying to get old people in the community to go to shelter and they won't go.

Gunfire in long sections of the Boulevard.

These repeated threads regarding topics that not a person on this board would be aware of is getting out of hand. Can moderators do anything about this?

Didn't expect this rebound after today's bad form.

It will hit Jamaica during an apparent intensification phase.

How this translates to the US approach makes me worry...

NHC: Ivan Could Emerge From Jamaica Cat 5

#3794 Postby canegrl04 » Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:10 pm

In their 8pm update, what struck me was the sentence about Ivan could become cat 5 again after passing over Jamaica. :(

Ivan is truly charting a path to destruction as well as the record books

That may very well be what it appears like...but it is not what it is. Hurricanes are very easy to fix with eyes as pronounced as this one is.

Trust me...I double checked my numbers about 7 times just to be sure because I was certain that someone would not want to hear that the hurricane has been moving at 315 for 3 hours.

That is NOT a representative long-term motion and I am sure it is moving closer to 305 to 310. If it nets 300 from 5PM for a 6 hour period it will not strike Jamaica. Of course I don't want to see a landfall...but the overall additional northward component will verify if they get a direct landfall...and I think they will.

Yes, it looks like someone already locked this one. Please look through the titles and see if you can just reply to an existing thread. Try to save the New Topics for well, new topics. :)

We're getting repeats on advisories too. Please just post the link to the advisory instead of the advisory itself. Anything we can do to conserve bandwidth will help keep the board up until we can get the upgrade done.

Your cooperation is appreciated.
