I agree totally Derek. This is serious. Then again... the poor in Jamacia are pretty vulnerable regardless.

Agree 1000%. The sad thing is... people won't have time to prepare. They will go to bed thinking this will be a tropical storm and awaken to a hurricane more than likely.

It's definitely no coincidence that once the outter convection dissipated, the inner core began to develop rapidly. It looks like Charley is well on his way to hurricane status. Look out Jamaica!

If the NHC want do it..I will

HURRICANE WARNING FOR JAMAICA..PREPARATIONS TO SAVE LIFE AND PROPERTY NEED TO BE RUSHED TO COMPLETION.
Now I feel better, but seriously...a warning needs to be issued NOW..not later

I agree as well. This is a dangerous situation that grows more dangerous with each passing hour. Point well taken about the poor of Jamaica.....thats where Charley is going to hit hardest. :(

Agreed totally ... on another thread, I explained that the outflow boundaries that busted out from the convection well away from the center was basically a cleansing act ... there was absolutely NO disruption on the southern semicircle of Charley ... I just didn't expect this 15 minutes after I posted that earlier this afternoon ...

The NHC SHOULD have issued a special advisory package at 8pm with the new watches/warnings and an updated track with intensity.

Question: Does the government of Jamaica issue watches and warnings or does it rely on the NHC for relevant information before issuing orders?

The government, HOWEVER, the NHC usually advises them strongly first.

No Doubt Derek!! I was kinda surprised when Steve Lyons was on during the last update he said wait a day and a half to fly in but didn't really sound to concerned with them..heck the airport could be trashed..lol

Might Charley's Track Look Something Like This

#598 Postby Guest » Tue Aug 10, 2004 7:19 pm

Now I know that Cleo was a CAT 5 in that area & tracked a tad north of where Charley is tracking but in a general term if you take Cleo's track & move it a tad south & west thats where Charley may end up if things continue to unfold as they are now.
