Tropical/Severe Weather Check-In
Could everyone please pm me or Southerngale with your contact numbers for the Severe Weather Check-in policy? If you've already sent yours in, then we should have it on file but being that many of you sent your info in back in 2005 it may not be current!
Your numbers will only be seen by me, Southerngale, Chad,Marshall and David. We feel that we can cover the clock very well by having a few of us with them but they will never be used for purposes other than the above mentioned unless you initiate it and we will not share them with anyone else. We want to make sure all of our members are safe during tropical season and other severe weather in your area and we don't hear from you. If you do experience severe weather, please post as soon as you can to let everyone know you are ok.
Edit to add: Please include your city and your first name. How funny would it be for me to say, call southerngale, "Hello, may i speak to southerngale please? this is cajunmama from storm2k checking to see if you were ok after hurricane x. We didn't see you back on the board after and we were worried."

Re: Tropical/Severe Weather Check-In
Thought this a great place to say a word about those outside their home country. I can speak to U.S. citizens with complete knowledge, but imagine the similar methods are used by other nations. For U.S. citizens, if you either reside in, or are visiting, a foreign country, you should register online at
https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/
There are two good reasons to register: Help for you, and information for your loved ones.
A hurricane (or earthquake, tsunami) could devastate the island you are on, knocking out all forms of communication for some time. The U.S. government will try to evacuate you, if they know who/where you are. Don't expect the local government to help you evacuate in a disaster. While they will, of course, have an interest in you returning home, their first obligation and main focus will be to immediate needs of medical care, food, water, housing, etc.
Privacy Act forbids State Department from giving information to anyone regarding your whereabouts, unless you give your permission in advance. So, while State may know you are alive and well, etc. they will not be able to tell your next of kin.

Thanks bvigal,
As US citizens living outside our home country, we have registered with the website you have mentioned.
Hopefully,we will not have to use it.
Everyone remain safe wherever you are....

Glad to see so many safe after Ike . Hopefully, the rest will check in as soon as they get electricity and internet. I wish you all the very best during the coming weeks and months as things get back to "normal".

Re: Tropical/Severe Weather Check-In
Okay now the tropics may become active again because there is a lot of showers in the carribean and in the western gulf of mexico. And a yelllow code east of the antilles and have an outward flow of convection. Some stations predicted a depression will form off the coast of Africa in the next 5-7 days and it looks like there is a LLC north of Puerto Rico with convection forming on east side.See this link.

Safe here in Port Arthur...the ceiling on the second floor doesn't look too safe, tho...I'm positive it was eyeballing my head so I took a look and left...our beach cabin at Crystal Beach is gone...just the slab left...and it took my favorite paring knife

Yes that is what it is. We want to know our members are ok after severe weather events.
