Sorry Alicia to hear of your sudden loss. I've experienced pet loss before, I do know how sad it can be.
Be strong. Keep the faith!

i sent that poem to my husband. he's out in Vegas this week. he said he had a dream about her last night and when he woke up he smelled a dog. so he thinks she visited him last night. hard to imagine him as human sometimes, but glad to see it.

The strangest thing happened to me after my yorkie Lacey died. She slept with me every night. About a week after she died, I was in my bed trying to sleep. When all of a sudden, I heard heavy scratching on the side of my bed. Maybe I was hearing things, but I could swear that I heard it. Lacey used to scatch on the side of my bed when she wanted me to pick her up to put her on the bed. It was almost like she was trying to send me a message that she was okay.

Alice, I'm so sorry. I know how much your little sheltie meant to you. Special ((HUGS)) for you my friend. Hope your new little pup helps a little.

it's almost ironic, but the new puppy was the one who alerted me to the fact that something was wrong.....

I think animals are so much more intuitive than people.

Hear, hear! I say way more to my Golden than I do my own immediate family members. She listens more intently too! LOL We even put the phone up to Hope's ear, during Nina's weekly phone calls home. We do goofy things to get Hope to talk and bark, which makes Nina miss her more.

But they are more intuitive. They watch our body language more than humans do.

Not only that those furry coats can absorb a lot of tears. Trust me.

Yep, that they do. I tell Hope she's a big ole wonderful pillow at times. And we joke she's half dog, half cat. She thinks she's a lap dog and weighs 70 lbs! She just doesn't see how big she really is. Has to be with us almost 24/7. The dogs I had while growing up kept to themselves mostly (Cairn Terriers) but I had a beloved Persian that was attached to me. In this way, Hope is very much like my old cat.

I never thought I'd be such a major dog lover, after all these years. Hope's 6 now and I never paid much attention to them until I got a dog. Now I'm always petting other owner's dogs. Especially on vacation! I miss being away from her the most then but at the same time we know it's best that we take 1 week a year w/o her.

I'm so glad you have other dogs alicia. They'll help you thru this loss.

I hate it when I go away because I miss my pets terribly!
