Don't know how worried we are; but it's interesting talking 'bout 'em. As to the aforementioned vices.. until recently I shared both as well; but I feel better since I'd managed to wean off of the cigs...(which was agonizingly hard because I REALLY enjoyed my cigs in the PM), but, hey, I'm still very into a few cold ones.... and actually... beer is good for you; unless you're a half-case a night man!

Kinda. A little known fact is that "Classic" Coke is sweetened with 1/2 cane sugar and 1/2 high fructose corn syrup. The original Coke before the New Coke fiasco was sweetened with 100% cane sugar. Cane sugar is much more expensive than HFCS. So the whole "New Coke" fiasco cut the cost of their production by a lot. Coke executives swear that they didn't plan the whoel thing, but I tend to wonder...

--with one exception: Diet Coke... this was essentially the "new formula" Coke, only sweetened with ... Aspartame.

Actually that's backwards. "New COke" was developed by taking the already existing Diet Coke formula and sweetening it with HFCS instead of Aspartame.

Now coke "Zero" is actually the original "classic" coke, sweetened with a mixture of aspartame, and something else..believe it's acesulfame potassium

It's also the formula for "Coke Light", which is the rough equivalent of Diet Coke in most of the rest of the world.

I use Splenda in my cup of tea in the morning and drink maybe 1 diet soda a day. I'll smoke maybe 5-6 cigarettes a day and I drink white wine. I say moderation in everything is the answer.

Now when Dennis reads this he'll realize that I'm really not a dumb blonde. Those diet sodas have been causing brain spasms. Or maybe they're just "senior moments!"

That is very true... should'a mentioned it myself what with all the aspartame/splenda et. al. talk. You're right... the good ol' "original" Coke was sweetened entirely by cane sugar.. and the..er...pseudo-"Classic" uses less and introduced the high-fructose corn syrup... seems next to impossible to avoid the crap. I knew there was something about "Classic" that just isn't "classic".

Okay... LOL... change the "was" to "is" and you get it the way it was intended; the point being that Diet Coke IS essentially the New Coke formula using aspartame.

And I still don't like the "New Coke" formula... never did.

I don't blame you. New Coke tasted like ultra-sweetened crap. They tried and failed to imitate Pepsi. I do generally prefer Pepsi to Coke, but New Coke was awful.

Unfortunately, the MyCokeRewards promotion has me drinking Coke instead of Pepsi, though. Darn those marketing geniuses! :D
