An armed man hijacked an 18-wheeler, took a hostage and led police on a bizarre chase through Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties for more than three hours Sunday afternoon.
The gunman was identified as Samuel Scott Jones, 31, of Dallas.
"I don't think this is going to end peacefully because black men are targets anyway," he told reporter Rebecca Lopez. Asked to explain, Jones said, "African-American men have Xs on their backs. They are targets of the government. The cops are going to hurt me either way."

Accused hijacker suspect in another carjacking

A day before the four-hour big rig chase that spanned three counties, police said the suspect may have been involved in another carjacking.
Samuel Scott Jones was placed in the Collin County Jail and charged with aggravated kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon after he was accused of carjacking an 18-wheeler at a Fairview rest stop, kidnapping a woman and leading police on the Sunday chase.
However, police said they believe he was also the man involved in a Duncanville carjacking Saturday evening and another attempted carjacking as well.

Accused carjacker's family speaks out

DALLAS - As hijacker Sam Jones was pursued by dozens of officers as he headed to his family's neighborhood with a gun pointed at the female driver of the 18-wheeler, his family said he may have wanted to say goodbye one last time.
Charlet Hill, Jones' sister, said he had told family members he intended to end his life and had called her before driving by her house during the hijacking to say he loved her.
"He said, 'I'm going to die tonight,'" she said. "I thought he was joking."
His father, Moses Jones, also said Jones reached out to him.
"He said, 'You probably won't see me no more daddy,'" he said. "I said, 'Why?' He said, 'They going to take me out.'"

Jones' family said he was distraught during the televised pursuit, and now the suspect is speaking for himself from the Collin County Jail.
Jones talked about what led him to the kidnapping, and about what was happening inside the truck with the woman he was holding at gunpoint, Christie K. Bundren, 51, of Allen.
